India has called on Pakistan to stop violating the ceasefire on the border with Jammu and Kashmir, The Times of India reported Monday.

MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - India has called on Pakistan to stop violating the ceasefire on the border with Jammu and Kashmir, The Times of India reported Monday.

"Pakistan should stop ceasefire violations now and understand the reality that times have changed in India," the newspaper quoted Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh as saying.

According to media reports, heavy shelling and fire on Monday morning from the territory of Pakistan killed five and injured 50 villagers in Jammu and Kashmir, a disputed region located on the borders of India, Pakistan and China.

Accusations also followed from other Indian officials, such as the former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, who said that "there cannot be anything worse than this."

According to the Times of India, the government of Jammu and Kashmir is currently providing assistance to the residents of the areas that have come under shelling from the territory of Pakistan.

Earlier, last week, it was reported that Pakistani fighters broke the ceasefire in the Gulmarg sector of Kashmir Valley as well as in Poonch and Jammu sectors, leaving one girl dead and six other people injured.

The latest violation, the newspaper says, is the 11th in the last four days.
