MOSCOW, September 30 (RIA Novosti) – The political situation in North Korea has worsened more in 2013 than the previous year, the World Bank reported on Tuesday.

North Korea’s World Governance Indicators (WGI) data, a World Bank indicator of political stability and absence of violence, fell from minus 0.11 in 2012 to minus 0.53 in 2013, Yonhap News Agency reports.

The WGI data ranges from minus 2.5 to plus 2.5, and is designed to assess the level of governance in six fields, including voice and accountability, political stability and absence of violence, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law and control of corruption.

The 2013 figure is the lowest WGI mark North Korea has ever been given since the World Bank started the program in 1996, according to Yonhap News.

There are speculations that North Korea’s political instability has taken a turn for the worse as a result of Jang Song-thaek’s execution in December 2012, Yonhap News said.

To make matters worse, Kim Jong-un has not made any public appearances over the past month. Rumors about the North Korean leader being sick have been circulating in the media.
