MOSCOW, September 28 (RIA Novosti) - The United Nations and the UN Security Council (UNSC) are absolutely appropriate instruments for solving global issues, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Sunday.
“The UN and its Security Council are absolutely appropriate instruments to solve today’s challenges but if they are used fairly as was agreed upon the creation of United Nations,” Lavrov said in an interview to Russia’s Channel 5 broadcaster.
If it was agreed that all problems should be resolved only by building consensus among the five permanent members of the UN Council, "then we have to do it," the minister stressed.
Meanwhile some countries use the UN only for spreading political propaganda, Lavrov added.
As an example, the foreign minister cited the fact that Western countries put to vote clearly unacceptable for Russia and China draft resolutions, and then accuse them of blocking "some approaches to the settlement of an issue," the minister added. This position is "not very decent and not aimed at partnership," according to Lavrov.
