MOSCOW, September 16 (RIA Novosti) – Washington's irresponsible policies have brought the world to the brink of a new Cold War, the speaker of the lower chamber of the Russian parliament said Tuesday.

"The updated version of it [Cold War] is becoming a reality nowadays," State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said.

NATO countries, by supplying Kiev authorities with weapons, would be meddling with Ukraine's internal affairs and aiding in war crimes, the Russian lawmaker added.

"The recent NATO summit only exacerbated the situation. We are receiving reports from different sources that the Kiev regime was promised arms deliveries from individual member states of the bloc which could become a direct interference in Ukraine internal affairs. Squarely put, collusion with war crimes going on there," Naryshkin said.

Last week, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that he was able to negotiate with a number of NATO countries on direct deliveries of modern weapons to Ukraine. According to the presidential adviser Yuri Lutsenko, an agreement was reached at the NATO summit in Wales on the supply of weapons from the United States, France, Poland, Norway and Italy. All these countries later denied this statement, but the Ukrainian president insisted that a number of NATO countries had agreed on direct supplies of such weapons.

NATO has repeatedly said that the organization itself cannot supply weapons and other military equipment to Ukraine. However, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that NATO would not interfere in the decisions of individual member states regarding this kind of decision.
