MOSCOW, July 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will on Monday meet with Syrian deputy prime minister in charge of economic affairs in Moscow.
Deputy premier Qadri Jamil last visited the Russian capital in April. During the visit, he discussed a Russian loan to Damascus.
Syria’s economic losses from the ongoing civil war are estimated at about 25 billion euro (about $33 billion). The exchange rate of the country’s national currency, the Syrian pound, fell from about 50 pounds for $1 when the uprising began in March 2011 to the current 100 pounds for $1.
The ongoing violence has claimed the lives of about 100,000 people, according to the latest UN estimates.
