The annual contest for young photojournalists, aged 18 to 33, was organized by Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency under the patronage of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. It is Russia's only platform aimed at discovering new young photographers and drawing public attention to the challenges photojournalism presents in today's world.
This year's Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest received around 5,000 entries from 76 countries in four categories, including Top News, Sport, My Planet, and Portrait: A Hero of Our Time.
Stenin was a Rossiya Segodnya special photo correspondent. He was killed in eastern Ukraine near Donetsk on August 6, 2014, when the car he was driving while on an editorial assignment was fired upon and burned on a highway.
