'I See Things You Don't See!' Artist Transforms the World With Paper Cutouts

London photographer Rich McCor, better known as Paperboyo, sees the world differently. A travel junkie, Rich doesn't just take photos of the picturesque sights he stumbles upon, but turns them into true masterpieces with the help of neat black paper figures.

"I see things you don't see," says the description of his Instagram account, and that is so true. The artist's vibrant vision allows Rich to imagine a skyscraper as a swing at kids' playground, a fountain as a bathtub and a bridge as a wave for a surfer.

© Photo : paperboyo In this photograph, Rich put an octopus in the coliseum to describe the concept of naumachia, the term “the Romans used to describe simulated naval fights - they were like gladiator battles on a bigger and wetter scale. Sometimes special structures were built and other times lakes were used, but there is evidence that the colosseum was once turned into a gladiatorial water world for a naumachia.”

© Photo : paperboyo Most Paperboyo’s pictures have a little story behind them. “…I was in full on stealth mode when I got here. Sure enough after two minutes of arriving I heard a honk behind me, it was a security car. He pulled up beside me and (very politely) told me that I shouldn't really be taking photos here. I showed him what I was doing with the surfer cutout and I could see a slight smile grow on his face. He then said, "I'm going to drive around one more time and then I'll give you a ride to the nearest taxi rank". So in the end I got my shot and I got a lift. I'd call that a success,” Rich shared his experience of visiting Al Meydan Bridge in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

© Photo : paperboyo It seems that Paperboyo’s cutouts have been everywhere, from sandy beaches to snowy mountains. Here’s a cutout kitty hiding behind Malta's famous Azure Window. Unfortunately, this natural wonder collapsed into the sea on March 8, 2017 after a period of heavy storms.

That would have been too easy to do a cutout with though, so I did this instead,” the photographer wrote a comment to this picture, made at Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai, UAE.
