Nearly 230,000 people were killed in the Indian Ocean tsunami caused by a 9.1 magnitude earthquake on December 26 2004. The tsunami hit a dozen countries including Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.

It comprised of island residents and volunteers from all over the world. They wanted to bring tropic paradise back to the island, and they did it. The island was soon restored.
