On April 26, Dmitry Medvedev and his wife, Svetlana, arrived on a state visit to Norway. At the airport in Oslo, the Russian president and his wife were met by Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.
While the Russian president was discussing economic cooperation and bilateral interparliamentary relations, Svetlana Medvedev and Queen Sonja of Norway (right) were visiting the Vigeland Sculpture Park.
The visit by the Russian presidential couple to Norway started with a meeting at Palace Square, which was marked by a cannon salute. King Harald V was dressed in full military uniform, and Medvedev wore a strict dark blue suit. Queen Sonja chose a light orange coat with a dark blue hat and Svetlana Medvedev wore an elegant suit with a medium length skirt of a pearl gray color.
After the 20-minute ceremony, the Russian president and the Norwegian king together with their spouses went to the Palace, where they exchanged gifts. Medvedev gave King Harald a Russian film about the Norwegian royal family. Dmitry and Svetlana Medvedev also gave the Norwegian royal couple some Russian-style presents: ivory craft, a coffee set (two cups with saucers) made in Russian enamel, a handmade open-work box made using a Kazakovskaya filigree technique, which is decorated with silver.
On the same day, the Russian president and his wife visited the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum. They visited the exhibit of the Falstad Memorial and Historic Center for Identification of Soviet War Prisoners, who were buried in Norway.
In the museum, the Russian president and King Harald V of Norway met with war veterans. Dmitry Medvedev handed them medals on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of victory in WWII. The veterans were participants in the Petsamo–Kirkenes Offensive, during which the Red Army liberated the eastern part of Norway. Among those who received medals were the members of Milorg, the Norwegian organization for armed resistance to Nazi occupation.
Dmitry Medvedev was dressed up in a dinner jacket and King Harald V in full military uniform. Queen Sonja of Norway chose a green dress with a white overskirt, and Svetlana Medvedev wore a bright blue dress.
