The 100th anniversary of the Tunguska explosion

Subscribe
On June 30, 2008, the world will mark the 100th anniversary of the “Tunguska event”, when a large meteoroid or comet fragment exploded near the Podkamennaya (Lower Stony) Tunguska River in East Siberia. This is the only meteor impact in recorded history comparable to a nuclear explosion.

Scientists will gather in Siberia to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tunguska Event June 26-28, one of the world's most mysterious explosions which flattened 80 million trees but largely went unnoticed at the time.
