MOSCOW, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - Archeologists made interesting finds near Suzdal, an ancient Russian town 220 kilometers northwest of Moscow.
An expedition of the Archeology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences headed by prominent scholar Nikolai Makarov is excavating settlements of the 11th-12th centuries (then the center of Northeast Russia), the Culture and Mass Communications Ministry reported.
Archeologists unearthed remains of houses with deep cellars, fences, and hundreds of utensils, tools, and jewelry from medieval Suzdal.
The most interesting finds are a stone icon, lead and bone seals, an amulet with an image of the Baptism, and a bracelet mold.
Unearthed copper and silver arrowheads, armor plates, spurs, and harnesses show that troops of Suzdal princes were stationed in these settlements.
