    GROZNY, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - A big terrorist act has been prevented in the Achkhoi-Martan district of Chechnya, a report sent on Sunday to RIA Novosti by the Regional Operational Headquarters for controlling the Counter Terrorist Operation in the Northern Caucasus (ROH) says.

    According to ROH data, yesterday, during a search at the entrance to the town of Bamut, operatives discovered and dismantled a self-made explosive device. The bomb contained two kilograms of TNT and a fuse. ROH officials noted that the device was placed at the side of the road frequently traveled by buses with local residents.

    At present, the authorities conduct a search of the area in order to detain the perpetrators of an attempt to conduct an act of terror.

    According to information provided by a source in the Chechen Interior Ministry on Sunday, a Russian Defense Ministry intelligence officer was wounded as a result of an explosion in Chechnya.

    The source told RIA Novosti that an explosion of a self-made bomb occurred at about 11:20 Moscow time in the vicinity of the Stary Achkhoi village (the Achkhoi-Martan district of Chechnya) during a search-and-destroy operation conducted by a reconnaissance group from the Russian Defense Ministry contingent in Chechnya.

    The wounded contract serviceman has been hospitalized.

    A search for perpetrators of the terrorist act is under way.
