MOSCOW, December 28 (RIA Novosti) - The cancellation of direct gubernatorial elections and the increase of the margin for political parties are the key political decisions in 2004, presidential economic advisor Andrei Illarionov said at a press conference on the economic and political results of the year.
The advisor did not give detailed comments on these decisions saying that competition in the political sphere is as important as in economy.
According to him, "the revolution in Ukraine" was "the lesson of the year." Mr. Illarionov did not congratulate Viktor Yushchenko on his victory saying that the Ukrainian Central Election Commission had not announced the official results yet.
Meanwhile, Andrei Illarionov congratulated Ukrainian people and voters who, in his words, "had helped themselves and us."
