NEW DELHI, Dec 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and India agreed about possible military interaction in Central Asia, in particular, in Tajikistan, a source in the Russian military delegation in New Delhi told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

"We agreed that we will closely coordinate our military activities," said the source.

He said India was building a runway in a military airport near Dushanbe, and recalled there was a Russian military base in Tajikistan.

The source said Russia did not "regard India as a rival and won't have anything against hypothetical presence of India in Central Asia."

As part of military-technical cooperation, Russia and India are discussing the possibility of creating a joint enterprise to produce 155-mm howitzers of the Most (Bridge) type, Rosoboronexport head Sergei Chemezov told journalists in New Delhi Saturday.

"This is a NATO caliber howitzer. We are ready to start joint production of howitzers to later sell them to third countries," said Mr. Chemezov.

The Rosoboronexport head emphasized that India was Russia's strategic partner in the sphere of military and technical cooperation, whose volumes were growing.

For last year, the volume of Rosoboronexport contracts with Indian partners exceeded $4 billion, said Mr. Chemezov.

With account for other Russian exporters of military hardware and armaments, the volume of Russian contracts with India recently exceeded $5 billion, said the Rosoboronexport head.

In turn, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov noted: "Russia does not give the military hardware and technologies it gives to Indian partners to any other state."
