ZERO GRAVITY IN A WATER POOL FOR SIX VOLUNTEERS

MOSCOW, November 19 (RIA Novosti's Alexander Kovalev) - A unique experiment on reproducing space-like zero gravity on Earth is held in a water pool of the Russian Institute of Medico-Biological Problems.

"Volunteers float on the surface of the water pool having a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius", the institute's official spokesman Mark Belakovski told RIA Novosti.

The gist of the experiment is that the volunteer is separated from the water surface by a special impermeable fabric.

"He is sort of floating in water, which maximally imitates zero gravity", Belakovski said.

Six male volunteers aged between 22 to 32 are involved in the experiment. The idea is to study prolonged weightlessness on the human vestibular mechanism, eyesight and muscular tone.

The results produced may come in useful in crew preparations for a Martian mission.
