ASTANA, September 16 (RIA Novosti) - The CIS summit now under way in Astana is focusing on terrorism-related problems.

The Russian president's aide Sergei Prikhodko told reporters that the agenda of the meeting of the Council of CIS Leaders had been changed to heed the latest tragic events in Russia, which claimed the lives of many civilians.

Therefore, the first issue on the summit agenda is related to the development of cooperation between the Commonwealth of Independent States member-countries against security and stability threats in line with relevant documents adopted by the CIS, the OSCE and the UN.

The CIS leaders are expected to sign a statement that condemns the unprecedentedly brutal and cynic terrorist attacks on the civilian facilities, according to Mr Prikhodko.

"The Commonwealth countries generally approve of joint activities for consolidating own and regional security endangered by modern challenges and threats," said the presidential aide.

Mr Prikhodko said the CIS leaders would also sign a series of crucial documents related to efforts against terrorism, organised crime, drug trafficking and illegal migration.

Besides, the leaders are expected to discuss problems that have a negative effect on trade and economic cooperation and to choose the next CIS chairman.

Ukraine is passing over its chairmanship in the CIS to another member-country, something the summiteers are expected to discuss, according to Mr Prikhodko.

In the end, the Commonwealth leaders will sign a series of documents. They will not hold debates on some of the documents to be signed at the summit as they had already been agreed on.

The presidents will also sign a document entitled "On the CIS Leaders' Address to the Peoples of the CIS Member-Countries and the International Community in Connection with the 60th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."
