TBILISI, July 15 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Rushailo, Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), said following a Tbilisi meeting with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili that issues related to economic integration processes in the CIS had dominated at the meeting.

"We focused on issues of economic integration in the multilateral and bilateral formats. However, the Georgian president put an emphasis on building up integration, above all, with the neighbours, Russia among them," said Mr Rushailo.

Mr Rushailo added that they had also discussed problems caused by new challenges and threats. "We discussed efforts against terrorism, organised crime, illegal migration, and drug trafficking," said Mr Rushailo.

There is a lot of room for cooperation in this sphere for the CIS interior ministries, according to Mr Rushailo.

Mr Rushailo also said that the conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia must be settled in line with available agreements and via talks.

"We discussed the situation surrounding the Tskhinvali district (name for the breakaway Republic of South Ossetia used by Georgia). The CIS Executive Committee does not address the problem. However, we believe the conflict must be settled in line with available agreements and by political means," said Mr Rushailo.

On Thursday, Mr Rushail held meetings with President Saakashvili and Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania. The conferees discussed documents that are being prepared for the meeting of the CIS heads of state and government, due in Astana, Kazakhstan, on September 15-17.
