MILITANT LEADERS PLAN TO SEND FOREIGN FIGHTERS TO CHECHNYA

GROZNY, July 15 (RIA Novosti) - "This summer, the leaders of militant groups in Chechnya plan send a group of foreign mercenaries to Chechnya to commit terrorist attacks," a press release from he regional headquarters for the antiterrorism operation in the North Caucasus said.

According to the document, federal forces have enough information about how the militants will arrive, their future movements and their destination to be able to stop them.

The release also said that some leaders are planning attacks not only against federal forces and the government, but also against the organizations that provide monetary compensation to the people who have lost their homes during military operations.

The militants also rob local residents.

"According to information from militants who have surrendered or been captured, members of the group of so-called field commander Gaziyev steal horses from the residents of the Urus-Martan district to ensure transportation for themselves," the press release said.

They threaten to kill those who refuse to give them horses.

"The militants regularly go to the village of Dargo in the Vedeno district and rob the residents to replenish their stocks of food and medicine," the press release goes on. At the same time, the militants exert moral and psychological pressure on the local residents and threaten to recruit young men into their group. "To show the seriousness of their intentions, the militants took three young men from the village away by force," the press release said.
