NIZHNY NOVGOROD, May 21 (RIA Novosti) - Nizhny Novgorod (the Volga region) and Matanzas (Cuba) will become twin cities, the Nizhny Novgorod press service told RIA Novosti.

The relevant agreement will be signed during the visit to Cuba by Nizhny Novgorod's delegation led by Mayor Vadim Bulavinov. The visit starts on Friday, May 21.

Its aim is to establish partnership relations with Matanzas province, the press service said.

Nizhny Novgorod's businessmen will join the official delegation to establish contacts with Cuban colleagues, the press service added.

The twin-cities movement began after World War II to develop cultural and economic relations between different countries. This movement is highly popular in democratic Russia. Many Russian cities have several twin-cities. For instance, Paris, Dusseldorf, Hanoi, Seoul and Warsaw are Moscow's twin cities and Dresden, Shanghai and Manchester are St. Petersburg's twin-cities.
