The poll was conducted in 100 inhabited areas of 39 regions, territories and republics of Russia. As many as 1,601 persons were polled in the form of interviews. The statistical error does not top 3.4%.
Among the 18-24-year-old polled, 59% are optimists; however, the number of optimists among the people above 60 years of age is only 39%. The higher the educational level, the greater is the number of people who think that the task of turning Russia into a competitive country is higher. 54% of the Russians with a higher education, 51% with a secondary education and 41% with a primary education believe that the task can be fulfilled in the coming 5-10 years.
61% of the constituents of the pro-presidential party of United Russia consider that this task is real, while among the supporters of the communists only 29% of the responders believe in this.
Among the conditions for achieving competitiveness, the Russians have named an up-to-date economy (60%), the high level of the citizens' wellbeing (47%), strong armed forces (23%) and the restoration of the leading positions in science and education (17%).
A strong economy is important for representatives of all social demographic groups of the respondents. However, more often this condition was named by the people with a higher education (66%).
Men attach greater importance than women to the existence of strong armed forces to ensure the competitiveness of Russia in the world arena - 31% and 16%, respectively.
