KADYROV JUNIOR UNLIKELY TO BECOME NEW CHECHEN PRESIDENT

MOSCOW, May 13, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Ramzan Kadyrov - the son of the killed Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov- is not going to run for the presidency.

When answering a question about his possible participation in the presidential elections in the Chechen Republic, Kadyrov junior said "No, I will not run for the presidency. I will do what a newly-elected Chechen president tell me to do".

Presidential elections in Chechnya are slated for September 5. It will be the first Sunday of September, Alexander Veshnyakov, head of the Russian Central Election Committee reported.

Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov was killed in a terrorist attack on May 9 at a stadium in Grozny. The terrorist attack claimed lives of 6 people more.

Kadyrov junior in charge of his father's security service was under treatment in one of Moscow private hospitals at that moment.

The Chechen Constitution says people under 30 cannot run for presidency while Ramzan Kadyrov is only 28. Only the parliament can make amendments to the Chechen Constitution. However, Chechens has not yet elected one.
