"The Russian joint stock company, Unified Energy Systems, will become an associated partner," the deputy head of the media relations department, Marita Nagoga, said. "This means that the energy holding company will be able to attend every E7 session however it will not have voting rights on a number of issues." According to a press release from the company, Mr. Chubais received a proposal to enter the Energy Seven as an associated partner at the association's 2001 forum in Italy.
"The Russian energy holding company is supposed to become a full and equal member of the E7 in 2006, when Russia receives full status in the G8," the press release said.
Energy Seven is an international non-commercial organization that unites leading energy companies: American Electric Power (U.S.), Electricite de France (France), Enel (Italy), Hydro-Quebec (Canada), Kansai Electrical Power Company inc. (Japan), Ontario Power Generation (Canada), RWE (Germany), ScottishPower (Great Britain) and Tokyo Electric Power Company (Japan).
The goal of the organization is to contribute to the stable and ecologically safe development of the power industry.
