IRKUTSK, May 3 (RIA Novosti) - A French film festival has opened Monday in the Siberian city of Irkutsk. This forum is being held within the framework of an Itinerant French Film project, Laurent Attal, Attache for Francophonia Cooperation at the French Embassy to Russia, told RIA Novosti.

The project kicked off in Moscow in November 2003 and is to finish in Vladivostok, in Russia's Far East, this next June. It will provide residents of more than twenty cities across Russia with an opportunity to see French films that are not running at Russian movie houses.

As Attal said, the current film festival in Siberia is part of a larger campaign, French Spring in Irkutsk, to last through May 11.

The organizers of the French Spring include the French Embassy in Moscow and the regional Irkutsk branch of the Alliance Francaise, promoting Franco-Russian cultural cooperation.
