"For our part, we shall reinforce action to be at the forefront of the world community in curbing the proliferation of mass destruction weapons," continues the report.
As the UN Security Council session was underway yesterday, most members out of 50 present, supported the draft resolution advanced by Russia in association with the United States.
This project is aimed at offering concerted rebuff to the black market of weapons of mass destruction and linked technologies and materiel. This project, complimentary to the non-proliferation mechanisms in effect, is to institute legal and operations frames of international cooperation in this sphere.
The draft also lays down some practical measures to improve the legislation of states that ought to block unauthorized access to weapons of mass destruction. Besides, the document provides for a mechanism of consolidating efforts on the regional and international levels.
The open discussion of the draft shows the Security Council's invariable readiness to cooperate and consider the opinions of UN member-states on whose behalf and in whose interests the said resolution is to be passed," says the Russian foreign ministry's report.
