GROZNY, April 23 (RIA Novosti) - A major renovation of water supply networks in the capital of the Chechen republic started from the beginning of 2004. Financing of work is envisaged by the Federal Target Program of Chechnya's rehabilitation for 2004-2005. Since the beginning of 2004 until now, three water supply points have been repaired and commissioned in Grozny. Restoration of distribution networks is underway in the city regions too.

This year, the water supply point in the southwest of the city will be commissioned, and in fall 2004, centralized water supply on all territory of the Chechen capital will be resumed, said a source in the city administration.

In the past years, the water supply system was practically destroyed. Until recently, water to the city was brought by trucks and there were queues to get it. "85 percent of the capital's population have centralized water supply now," said the source.

Water quality is monitored by the Republican Center of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision. Samples are taken twice a week, and there are no serious reprimands from doctors.
