RUSSIA VIEWS FOREIGN TROOPS PRESENCE IN CENTRAL ASIA WITHIN FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM - LAVROV

MOSCOW, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russia views the presence of foreign troops in Central Asia in the context of fight against terrorism, emanating from Afghanistan on other countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the press conference.

"This position is confirmed by our American colleagues and we proceed from such understanding", he said.

As regards the approach of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the antiterrorist coalition, Lavrov said: "The SCO is a geopolitical reality and a member of the global antiterrorist coalition, just as each member-country of the SCO".

Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan are members of the SCO organisation. A foreign ministerial council of the SCO countries was held in Moscow on Friday.
