MOSCOW AND BAKU EXPANDING CULTURAL TIES

MOSCOW, April 14 (RIA Novosti) - At their meeting in Moscow first deputy foreign minister of Russia Eleonora Mitrofanova and deputy education minister of Azerbaijan Irada Guseinova discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in the spheres of culture and education, the press and information department of the Russian Foreign Ministry has reported.

Discussed at the meeting was also the holding of the Year of Russia in Azerbaijan and the Year of Azerbaijan in Russia - the landmark events to which both countries attach great importance.

The issues related to teaching the Russian language in Azerbaijan were also discussed by the deputy ministers.

It was noted at the meeting that the Program of Cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan in the Humanitarian Sphere for the years 2004-2006, which was signed during the first official visit of President Ilkham Aliyev of Azerbaijan to Moscow in February 2004, elevates relations between Russia and Azerbaijan to a new quality and its implementation will help to mutually enrich the cultural life of the Russian and Azeri peoples .
