YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, April 14 (RIA Novosti) - The company Rosneft-Sakhalinmorneftegaz no longer has its own self-elevating floating drilling rigs starting from April.

As the company told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, the four self-elevating floating drilling rigs that were used in the Persian Gulf have been sold out because their operation abroad has proved to be unprofitable under the Russian customs legislation.

Every two years the Sakhalin rigs were required to be moved from the Middle East to the Far East for inspection by Russia's customs bodies. It is more advantageous for foreign companies to place long-term contracts and temporary disruptions in the work of Russian rigs were a serious obstacle for their conclusion.

Moreover, Rosneft-Sakhalinmorneftegaz intends to order new and more advanced floating drilling rigs in technological terms with the sale proceeds to carry out contractual work for the exploration of the Sakhalin shelf.

In view of confidentiality, neither the name of the company nor the cost of the transaction have been disclosed.
