MOSCOW, April 13 (RIA Novosti) - The head of the Duma Security Committee, Vladimir Vasilyev believes that the world is still applying double standards in regard to terrorism.
"Our Western partners see terrorist acts in their countries as a crime but interpret terrorist manifestations in Russia as the fight for freedom and independence," the deputy said on Tuesday at parliamentary hearings in the State Duma.
In his words, the fight against terrorism is used by the American authorities as a shield for implementing their geopolitical plans.
"The US-led aggression against Iraq, for one, has become a serious destabilizing factor in the Middle East," said Mr. Vasilyev. According to the Russian parliamentarian, the US military operation in Iraq "has stepped up the activities of terrorist organizations in the Middle East and increased the population's sympathies towards terrorists."
