    MOSCOW, April 8 (RIA Novosti) - In his telephone conversation with US President George Bush, President Putin stated his resolve to co-operate with the international community and the UN, and to take all the necessary efforts to normalise the situation in crisis areas of the world.

    According to the Kremlin press service, the telephone conversation between the Russian and US leaders was initiated by the American side.

    The heads of state exchanged views on the situation in crisis regions of the world - Iraq, Kosovo, Afghanistan and others. The sides expressed serious concern over the lack of progress in the solution of regional problems, and over the escalation of violence.

    Messrs. Putin and Bush also discussed urgent issues of bilateral co-operation in light of preparations for the Russian-US high-level meeting in the Sea Island (US) within the G-8 summit.
