MOSCOW, April 8 (RIA Novosti) - The parliamentary majority of a political party should not hamper permanent competition in programmes and ideas, said Russian President Vladimir Putin at his meeting with the leadership of both houses of the Federal Assembly.

The president noted that deputies' professional assessment of draft laws should be unbiased.

Mr. Putin continued that today's exchange of opinions with parliamentarians would be used to a certain extent in the president's state-of-the-nation address to the Federal Assembly.

"After the parliamentary and presidential elections, we should determine the programme of joint actions and map out landmarks for the next few years, including with due heed for the four-year prospect," said Mr. Putin.

"Apparently, we should start new dynamics of work in all areas. This is important for raising the living standards of our citizens," said the president.

Today's meeting between the president and parliamentarians is the first after Vladimir Putin was re-elected for a second term.
