MOSCOW, April 8, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation has confirmed the plans of signing an agreement with NATO which will make it possible for Russian units to stay in the territory of the NATO countries and vice versa.

"The signing of such an agreement is being planned. This is connected with international legal aspects concerning the presence of peacekeepers," an official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Yakovenko said at a news conference in RIA Novosti.

"Today, such situations are not regulated from the point of view of international law," he noted.

"Such an agreement will fix the accords between the two countries from the legal point of view," Alexander Yakovenko said.
