MOSCOW/KRASNOYARSK, April 8 (RIA Novosti). One man died and ten were wounded in the accident with a Mi-8 helicopter of the Interior Troops outside Chita, South Siberia, on Thursday morning.
"The accident took place at 6:20 Moscow time 80 km away from Chita; the engine's gearbox went on fire when helicopter was 5 metres up, sending the machine down," said a spokesman of the information department of the Emergencies Ministry. According to preliminary information, of the 12 persons on board of the helicopter, one man died and ten were wounded. The case is being investigated.
The officer on duty in the Siberian regional centre of the Emergencies Ministry in Krasnoyarsk confirmed the death of one man and said two more were gravely wounded. The injured have been airlifted to Chita and put into hospital.
