PUTIN APPOINTS LESIN AS PRESIDENTIAL AIDE

MOSCOW, APRIL 6. (RIA Novosti correspondent) -- Vladimir Putin has decreed appointing Mikhail Lesin as a presidential aide, the Kremlin press secretary Alexei Gromov told RIA Novosti.

The presidential press service told RIA Novosti that Lesin will coordinate the development of the media and mass communication market, informatics and advanced information technologies, protection of intellectual property as regards author's and allied rights, development of tourism and sport, interaction with public and professional organisations in these spheres.

Mikhail Yurievich Lesin was born on July 11, 1958. Graduated from the Moscow Construction Engineering Institute (MISI). Did his army stint with the marines.

Upon graduation from the MISI, worked in his line (as a construction engineer) for several years.

In 1988 Lesin became engaged in the production of commercials. In 1991 established the advertising TV company Videointernational and became its chairman of the board.

Starting in 1993 worked with RIA Novosti and was the general director of the Novosti-TV television company.

In September 1996 to February 1997 was the chief of the public relations department of the Russian president.

In June 10, 1997 to July 6, 1999 - the first deputy chairman of the National State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK). Starting on July 6, 1999 -- the Minister for the Press, Television and Radio Broadcasting and Mass Telecommunications Means.

Married, has a son.

The February 24, 2004 presidential decree dismissed the cabinet of ministers. The Press Ministry was abolished in view of the cabinet reform. -o- (nov/sm)
