TBILISI, April 6, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Head of Adzharia Aslan Abashidze is ready for talks with prime minister of Georgia Zurab Zhvania on the issue of delimitating powers between the central authorities in Tbilisi and the Adzharian autonomy. Special envoy of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to Georgia Plamen Nikolov made such a statement on Tuesday in the capital of Adzharia, Batumi in the wake of his meeting with the head of the autonomy.

"A decision has been taken that the Georgian Prime Minister will arrive here and begin discussing the issues of delimitating powers between the center and the region," Nikolov said. According to him, Abashidze and the prime minister of Georgia are responsible politicians, that is why "their conversation will be constructive." Nikolov also said that Abashidze acquainted him with the situation in Adzharia and the fulfillment of the agreements reached at the talks of the Adzharian leader with the president of Georgia on March 18.

"I think a good basis exists for talks between the representatives of the government and the autonomy's authorities," the spokesman for the Council of Europe said in conclusion.
