KALININGRAD, April 5 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Kaliningrad (administrative center of the Russian exclave region on the Baltic Sea) may soon have a Japanese sister city, Issei Nomura, the Japanese ambassador to Russia, said after a meeting with Kaliningrad's top officials.

"I learnt that Kaliningrad has a lot of partner cities in foreign states - the U.S., Ireland, France, Germany and even China. But none in Japan. That's why we back the Kaliningrad authorities' proposal to find a sister city in Japan. Cooperation must be consolidated," the ambassador said.

He said the Japanese sister city must be similar by its main parameters to its Russian one. "It will probably be a port," the Japanese ambassador said.

The Japanese ambassador to the Russian Federation arrived in Kalininigrad to attend the opening ceremony of the Japanese cinema festival. Within the framework of his two-day visit, he intends to meet with the heads of the region's state bodies, and representatives of the military and business elite.
