RUSSIANS WIN TWO GOLD MEDALS AT ITALIAN KARATE OPEN

ROME, April 5, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russian athletes won two gold medals at Italian Open Karate Championship, which was held over the weekend in Milan, the press-service of the Russian Karate Federation disclosed.

Murad Gadzhiyev won the gold in the over 80 kg weight category. In the below 70 kg category the gold went to Vladimir Khripunov.

Fighters from 20 various countries of the world participated in the tournament.

Victories of the Russian fighters in such prestigious tournaments (the Italian Karate Open is included in the series of the Golden League tournaments) set us on the optimistic tune before the forthcoming European Karate championship, which is scheduled to be held in Moscow this May, Head Coach of the Russian national karate team Omar Murtazaliyev said.
