The conference opened on Monday, when the minister's greetings were read by Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov. "Multilateral diplomacy is a key to peaceful life in the multifaceted world where cultures and traditions of different nations and generations intertwine," say the greetings. "The UN is a real chance for humankind to find solution to such global tasks on the basis of which we will be able to create reasonable, fair and non-confrontational relations. Such relations will enable us to ensure respect and protection of interests of all parties.
"Your striving to have a better understanding of the structure and the operation of the UN and the mechanism of multilateral diplomacy will help you find your bearings in real politics whose members you will become," the Russian Foreign Minister wrote in his address.
