RUSSIAN AUDIT CHAMBER DELEGATION TO VISIT USA

MOSCOW, APRIL 5, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI) - The delegation of the Russian Audit Chamber headed by its chairman Sergei Stepashin will pay an official visit to the USA on April 5 through 7, says the Chamber's report RIA Novosti received on Friday.

Cooperation between the two countries' supreme bodies of state financial control in disclosing the channels of financial support of international terrorism and in the struggle against money laundering is expected to be discussed during the talks with the head of the US General Accounting Office, David M. Walker.

The intensification of control departments' participation in such spheres of the Russian-US relations as trade and investment, collaboration in information technologies, and in the elimination of chemical weapons will be also considered.

Mr. Stepashin will take part in a session of the working group of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) to fight money laundering. The organization was created on the initiative of the Russian Audit Chamber last year to consolidate the efforts of the control bodies of more than 170 countries in the joint work for disclosing the sources of the financial support of international terrorism.

In addition, Sergei Stepashin will make a speech during the discussion, to be held under the aegis of the US General Accounting Office, with the participation of representatives of the US government and international financial organizations devoted to the struggle against money laundering and organized by the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The head of the Russian Audit Chamber is also going to meet with the US legislators and representatives of the business community.
