PASSENGER PLANE IL-96 MAKES AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, April 5, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - An Il-96 plane of the Domodedovskiye Airlines on Sunday made an emergency landing in the airport of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, no victims.

As RIA Novosti was told on Monday in the regional rescue service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, the crew of the liner, which flew from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Moscow, found out that one of the four engines stopped during the take-off. The commander decided to return to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. For about an hour the plane was circumflying over the southern part of Sakhalin, spending its fuel.

All the necessary measures were taken in the airport in case of the appearance of an emergency situation.

"The landing was successful, because the pilots of passenger planes and we have been constantly improve our skills for such emergency situations," the chief of the rescue service Yevgeny Kropalev said.

There were no victims among the more than 300 passengers who will be brought to the Russian capital by another plane of this company.

A commission has left Moscow for Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to find out the causes of the incident.
