"On April 2 Georgy and Badri Saginadze and Edvard Mskhiladze were arrested in different Georgian regions. They were hired by high-ranking Adzharian officials in Batumi to attempt President Mikhail Saakashvili's life," the deputy minister said.
According to him, Adzharian Deputy Interior Minister Soso Gogitidze and State Security Minister Sergo Gogitidze masterminded the crime.
A Leri Beridze, another member of this group, was detained on March 23, Ugulava said. According to the original version of the State Security Ministry, Beridze was to liquidate the leaders opposed to the Adzharian authorities. "However, this version turned to be false. The group of six people, four of whom are already under arrest, planned an attempt on Saakashvili's life. Relevant materials were found with them, Mr. Ugulava said.
The other two members of the group were declared wanted, the deputy minister said. According to the State Security Ministry, they are sheltering in Adzharia.
