ALL CHECKPOINTS IN GROZNY TO BE REMOVED

KHANKALA, April 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- All checkpoints in Grozny can be removed in April, the regional operative staff for the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.

"According to Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov, all checkpoints will be removed by April 20th in Grozny. Relevant agreements have been already achieved with all the interested departments," the regional staff said.

According to its data, a major checkpoint by the bridge across the Sunzha River on the intersection of Zhukovsky and Mayakovsky streets has already been removed. It ceased to have significance. Other checkpoints in Zhukovsky street and Petropavlovskoye highway can block this directions if necessary, the staff reported.
