    BELARUS TO HOLD JOINT CIS AIR DEFENCE MILITARY EXERCISES

    MINSK, April 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - General-Lieutenant Yuri Solovyov, head of the Russia's special task forces said at the National Belarus television that the joint CIS air defence exercises are planned to take place in Belarus this April.

    It is expected that up to 70 air planes from nine CIS countries will be engaged in the exercises, slated to be held April 7th, Mr. Solovyov, who is heading the group of Russian Military Air Forces Generals and officers in Minsk, disclosed.

    He also said that air planes, equipped with the early-warning radar and the A-50 navigation system, which is the analogue of the NATO's Awacs, would participate in the exercises on the Russian part.
