ST PETERSBURG, April 2 (RIA Novosti-Northwest) - A special commission will take a decision on the further use of a residential building in Dvinskaya Street in St Petersburg, where a crack was discovered yesterday, the press center of the St Petersburg Main Department for Civil Defense and Emergencies told RIA Novosti.

The report about a crack in an elevator shaft in house No. 8 building 2 was received Thursday about 11:30 p.m.

The crack began to expand, and 365 people, including 80 children, were evacuated from the building. Some residents moved to their relations; 142 people, including 22 children, were accommodated in a nearby kindergarten.

No one was hurt. The building was guarded at night.

The nine-storey brick house was built in 1971. A dormitory of the Baltic Sea Shipping Company occupied it.

On June 3, 2002, three upper storeys of a nearby building in Dvinskaya Street partly collapsed. A fire broke out then, and part of the building was completely destroyed. That tragedy killed 4 people and left another four wounded.
