ISLAMABAD, April 1, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russian companies are ready to start upgrade of the Pakistani largest metallurgical works in Karachi built with assistance by Soviet specialists, the APP agency reports on Thursday.

The day before, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf received in Rawalpindi (a former Pakistani capital, nowadays a de-facto district of Islamanad) a Russian delegation headed by Nikolay Ulyanov, president of the Tyazhpromexport company.

During the meeting Tyazhpromexport representatives said they could take part in the upgrade of the works. At the same time the Pakistani president highly assessed the proposal from the Russian party.

The parties discussed prospects for further economic and trade cooperation between Russia and Pakistan.

Pervez Musharraf said Islamabad was interested in the development of bilateral relations between the countries and stressed that there was a great potential for it.
