MOSCOW, April 1, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said that there was politics motivated the United States House of Representatives International Relations Committee to pass resolution 336 calling for Russia's G-8 membership to be suspended.

"It is a part of a politics," Mr. Kudrin said, commenting on the resolution.

Russia, "is absolutely a key player in the world and today obviously confirms the level," Mr. Kudrin said. He said the G-8 defines the fight against poverty as one of its main goals and Russia is "one of the largest creditors to the poorest countries in the world and leading member of the Paris Club." Mr. Kudrin said that the G-8 might grow. "I predict that the members of the G-8 will increase, not decrease. And China will be the first to join," Mr. Kudrin said Thursday on Ekho Moskvy radio.
