MOSCOW, March 31, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - NATO's expansion towards Russia's borders and its defense bastions are not aimed to defend it against the real enemies, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov told reporters on Wednesday.

In his words, there is only one threat - the threat of international terrorism that Russia and NATO are fighting against.

Therefore, State Duma deputies adopted a statement today to express their concern over NATO's eastward expansion, noting that this move is not a necessary prerequisite in the fight against terrorism.

Mr. Gryzlov also said that the text of the document would be circulated on April 2 in Brussels where the Russia-NATO Council will gather for a session.
