RUSSIAN, ROMANIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSS BILATERAL TIES

MOSCOW, March 31, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Romanian counterpart Mircea Geoana on the sidelines of the international conference on Afghanistan currently held in Berlin, the information and press department of the Russian foreign ministry told RIA Novosti.

The ministers discussed bilateral ties in various areas and ways of implementing major regulations of the agreement on friendly ties and cooperation that Russia and Romania signed in July 2003.

Sergei Lavrov and Mircea Geoana "spoke for stronger Russian-Romanian interaction within the UN and its Security Council, noted the importance of more active joint efforts to solve topical issues of modern times and of decently meeting fresh threats and challenges," runs the foreign ministry's report.
