All in all, representatives of 16 political parties and 60 public associations took part in the congress. They decided to hold the 2nd congress in autumn.
The Congress resolution points out the necessity to form a powerful patriotic coalition in 2004 already. According to delegates, the Congress parties will launch formation of inter-faction associations at all levels of legislative power.
The delegates called on all patriotic organizations to join the general agreement on cooperation and partnership recently signed by eight political parties.
The Congress of Russian Patriots was held on the initiative of executive committee chairman of the Russian People's Patriotic Union, State Duma deputy Gennady Semigin. Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov called this event a dirty trick aimed to split the Communist party and the leftist-patriotic movement.
