SECURITY AT SPARTAK - SATURN FOOTBALL MATCH TO BE TIGHTENED

MOSCOW, March 19, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- RIA Novosti was told in the Main Interior Directorate of the Moscow Region that more than 3,000 policemen would ensure security during the football match between the Russian Premier League teams Spartak and Saturn to be held at the town of Ramenskoye in the Moscow Region on Friday.

According to it, reinforced police details will be operating not only at the stadium and on the adjoining territory, but also in the town itself, as well as at the railway and auto stations. Police groups with sniffer dogs will check the stadium before the game to look for explosive devices.

The representative of the Regional directorate also said that drunken spectators would not be let into the stadium, and drinks in glass vessels and all objects, which can be used as weapons will be confiscated.

The agency's source said that "more than 16,000 tickets to the game have been sold." The stadium has a seating capacity of 16,500. So, there will be approximately one policeman for five fans.
